The Saturday SCS Lakers U12s put up a spirited fight at home against NS Mavrix but came up short in a competitive 40-32 battle. Despite the loss, the Lakers showed tremendous heart and determination, keeping the game close throughout most of the contest. The team now stands at 2-8 for the season, but this performance demonstrated significant growth and potential.
The first half was an exhilarating experience, characterized by multiple lead changes in a back-and-forth shootout. Oscar scored the first points for the Lakers, followed by a crucial three-pointer from Jai that gave them their initial lead at 5-3. The momentum continued to shift as both teams exchanged baskets, with Oscar and Jai spearheading the Lakers' efforts. A strong finish to the half, highlighted by consecutive baskets from Oscar, helped the Lakers take an 18–17 lead into the break.
Oscar was absolutely dominant throughout the game, finishing with an outstanding 16 points on an efficient 8-of-16 shooting performance. His consistent scoring kept the Lakers in contention from start to finish. Jai provided excellent support with 9 points, including three impressive three-pointers that came at crucial moments. Several other Lakers contributed to the team effort, with Nathaniel 'Syd' Malveda, Skylar, and Luke each chipping in 2 points apiece.
While NS Mavrix managed to pull away in the second half with a key 8-point scoring run, the Lakers never gave up. They continued to battle until the final buzzer, with Jai drilling a late three-pointer to keep fighting. This was precisely the kind of competitive effort and teamwork that will serve this young team well as they continue to develop throughout the season.
