Shorthanded Friday SCS Lakers U14s Fall Just Short in 35-30 Thriller Against Rockets at Court 1, 7:15pm, 27 February 2026

The Friday SCS Lakers U14s faced a tough challenge against the Rockets, narrowly losing in a thrilling 35-30 contest. The challenge was even greater for the squad this week, as they were forced to take the court shorthanded; key players Chris Wourman and Blake Prunster were both sidelined by illness and unable to play. Despite the loss, the Lakers' record remains strong at 6-2, showcasing the competitive spirit and improvement this team continues to demonstrate.

The Lakers started the game with remarkable energy, quickly establishing a commanding 9-2 lead thanks to outstanding performances from Lans #58, who scored six early points, and a crucial three-pointer from Muse #31. However, the Rockets showed their resilience with an impressive 8-0 scoring streak that erased the Lakers' advantage and gave them their first lead of the game at 10-9. The first half turned into a fierce contest, marked by numerous lead changes, as Lans consistently responded to every Rockets score with his baskets, ensuring the Lakers remained competitive and trailing by only two points, 18-16, at halftime.

The second half saw Lans deliver an absolutely outstanding performance, dominating both ends of the court and finishing with a game-high 25 points on efficient 11-19 shooting from the field. His hot start to the second half, including back-to-back field goals, helped the Lakers regain the lead at 20-18. Jack Evans #2 also contributed a crucial basket late in the game, showing outstanding determination despite a challenging shooting night. The game remained tight throughout, with neither team able to pull away until the Rockets managed a decisive 6-0 run late in the fourth quarter that ultimately sealed their victory.

While the final score didn't go their way, the Lakers showed incredible heart and determination, especially playing without Chris and Blake. Lans N #58's spectacular 25-point performance highlighted the team's potential, Muse #31 provided valuable support with his early three-pointer, and the entire squad demonstrated the kind of competitive fire that will serve them well in future games. The game was exactly the type of competitive experience that will make this team stronger as they continue their impressive season.
