Saturday SCS Lakers U12s Push Zenith in Gritty Contest Before Falling 43-16 at Court 1, 10am, 14 March 2026

The Saturday SCS Lakers U12s faced a tough challenge against SCS Zenith, falling 43-16 despite showing outstanding heart and determination throughout the contest. The Lakers now stand at 3-9 for the season, but there were several bright spots and moments of excellence that demonstrated the team's continued growth and potential.

The game started with tremendous energy as the Lakers showed they were ready to compete. After SCS Zenith scored first, Jai Singh #28 immediately answered back with a clutch three-pointer to give the Lakers their first lead at 3-2. The first half featured exciting back-and-forth action, with Josh Evans #20 stepping up as a leader by scoring consecutive baskets to help the Lakers maintain their competitive edge. Evans was particularly impressive, going 4-11 from the field while leading all Lakers scorers with 10 points. The Lakers trailed just 16-10 at halftime, staying within striking distance thanks to Evans' 7 first-half points.

The second half began with the Lakers showing tremendous resilience and skill. Nathaniel 'Syd' Malveda #58 opened the half with a beautiful three-pointer, demonstrating excellent shooting form and confidence. Evans continued his strong performance by adding another basket, pulling the Lakers to within one point at 16-15—their closest margin since early in the game. Both Syd and Jai showed great shooting touch from beyond the arc, each converting 50% of their three-point attempts (1-2 each) and finishing with 3 points apiece.

While SCS Zenith pulled away in the later stages of the second half, the Lakers never stopped competing and playing with pride. Evans capped off his outstanding individual performance by sinking a free throw in the game's final moments, showcasing the team's determination to fight until the final buzzer. The entire roster contributed, with multiple players seeing significant playing time, demonstrating the team's depth and commitment to development.

This game also marked a significant milestone for the team, as it was the last Under 12s game for Josh Evans. Josh has been a cornerstone of this squad, and his leadership and scoring ability were on full display in his final outing. The entire Lakers family thanks Josh for his contributions to the U12s and wishes him nothing but the best as he takes the next step in his basketball journey. He will always be a part of the Lakers' story!
