Second-Half Surge Not Enough: Lakers U12s Show Heart in Loss to Mavrix (15 November 2025)

The Saturday SCS Lakers U12s had a tough time against NS Mavrix. They lost 39-20, but they did show some excellent offensive play throughout the game. The Lakers are now 1-1 after this loss. They are still working on their chemistry and building momentum for the 2025-2026 summer season.

Ethan Espiritu scored the first points of the game with a two-point field goal and then added a free throw to make it 3-0, giving the Lakers a strong start. But NS Mavrix quickly took charge of the game with an impressive 13-point scoring streak that made their lead 15-3 by the end of the first half. Jai Singh stood out during this period. He hit a clutch two-pointer to stop the other team's run and keep the Lakers in the game.

The Lakers showed how tough they are and how much better they were at offense in the second half. Surya was the team's top scorer with 7 points, thanks to two straight field goals to start the half that brought the score closer. His 3-7 shooting (43%) was excellent, showing that he knew how to pick his shots and was sure of himself. Late in the game, the Lakers established a rhythm, with each member of the team contributing significantly. Ethan Espiritu scored 5 points on 40% shooting, and Nathaniel "Syd" Malveda went 2-2 from the field to score 4 points.

The Lakers showed a lot of heart by finishing the game strong, even though they lost. Hunter Caroll had an immediate impact by making all of his field goals, and the team's ball movement and hustle got a lot better in the second half. The Lakers have many good things to build on as they get ready for their next game. Many players helped score, and there were clear signs of improvement throughout the game.
