The Friday SCS Lakers U12s fought hard in their season opener at home, but they lost to the SCS Falcons 47-46 in a thrilling game that came down to the last few seconds. Even though they lost by a small margin, the Lakers showed a lot of heart and determination throughout the game. Several players stepped up and played great individually, keeping them in the game until the very end.
The game was a back-and-forth fight from the start, with fans on the edge of their seats as the lead changed hands several times. The Lakers were down 22-17 at halftime, but they came out strong in the second half and started to close the gap. The team showed a lot of strength when things got tough in the second half, when the Falcons took their biggest lead, 36-27. But the Lakers didn't give up and made a great comeback.
Kayson C (#3) led the way with 17 points, shooting 8-11 from the field and 1-1 from the free-throw line. He had a great game. Kayson always found ways to score, which helped keep the Lakers close enough to win. Jai Singh (#1) helped a lot by scoring 12 points, including a big three-pointer early in the game and clutch free throws late that gave the Lakers a short lead of 44-43. Josh Evans (#20) also helped a lot, scoring 10 points on 4-7 shooting. Kyron T (#4) added 4 points, and Ethan Espiritu (#24) added 2 points on perfect shooting.
The most exciting part was when the Lakers tied the game at 43-43 in the last few minutes and then Jai Singh made two free throws in a row to give them a 44-43 lead. The Falcons won by scoring four of the last six points, but the Lakers showed the fighting spirit and teamwork that will help them all season. This close loss shows how tough this young team can be. With performances like these from their best players, there are many reasons to be hopeful about the future.
